Pathivara Devi Temple - Taplejung District

One of the major attractions of Taplejung is the Pathivari devi Temple. This little known region attracts tourists seeking spiritual fulfillment and blessings from the powerful  Pathivari devi . Hindus as well as Buddhists reach the temple for celebrations during special occasions. The trek to Pathivari devi (3794 m) combined with the natural and cultural experiences of the region make the visit a unique exhilarating experience. It takes a single  day to reach the temple of Pathivara on foot from Taplejung Bazaar. On the way to the temple one can find many species of Rhododendron (लालीगुराँस). The shrine of the Pathibhara Devi temple is located on a mountain at 3794 meters in the Far East of Nepal. The temple is holy for Hindu's as well as Buddhists.

Kanchanjunga Conservation Area is situated in the north-eastern Nepal in the district of Taplejung , the Kanchanjunga Conservation Area is boardered by the Tibet-China in the north and Sikkim-India in the east and sankhuwasava district in the west. The area has alpine grasslands, low river valleys with temperate and sub-tropical forests. Ten spicies among Nepal's 20 indigenous gymnosperms and 15 among Nepal's 23 endemic flowering plants are found in this region. In addition almost 30 varieties of rhododendron spicies and 48 varieties of orchids are found here. Wildlife include endangered snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, musk deer, red panda, blue sheep and rhesus monkey. About 252 spicies of different birds including impheyan pheasant, reb-billed, blue magpie, shy drongo are found in the area.

Taplejung - Introduction

Taplejung District: ( ताप्लेजुङ जिल्ला) a part of Mechi Zone, is one of seventy-five districts of Nepal, a landlocked country of South Asia. Taplejung (Fungling) is the headquarter of all its districts. It covers an area of 3,646 km² and has a population (2001) of 134,698.
                          The name Taplejung is originated from the words "Taple" and "Jung". Taple was the medieval Limbu King who used to rule the area and "Jung" in Limbu language means Fort. Literally, Taplejung means Fort of King Taple.

           Taplejung is located in North Eastern Nepal; the Tamor River flo
ws through the district. The area is famous for its proximity to Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world. Taplejung has an airstrip with commercial flights to Biratnagar and Kathmandu. A road connects the district headquarters with the Terai plains. Most of the populations are involved in agriculture, and the vegetation zones range from sub-tropical to temperate forests, alpine meadows, and snow, and ice.

Taplejung is one of the most beautiful areas in eastern Nepal, with a spectacular landscape, Himalayan peaks of heights above 7000 meters and a wide range of flora and fauna. Mt. Kanchanjunga (8586 m), the world's third largest peak, lies in this region. Alpine grassland, rocky out crops, dense temperate and subtropical forests, and no river valleys make up the region. Taplejung occupies an area ranging from 670 meters to 8586 meters (Mt. Kanchanjunga) above sea level.
